What did you want to know

One of DH friends taught there

DH is out atm but I could ring him to ask him

What did you want to know?

justhaddinner · 16/10/2006 20:55

Just wondered what the general feel of the place is like really and the 'type' of pupil they cater for. My DC is not particularly outgoing and am just trying to get unbiased opinions of the school really.

I know some friends who are considering it for their ds. He looked round at an open day and really liked it, but it is definately a boarding school first, so they are not sure about sending him as a day boy. And they aren't especially posh.

justhaddinner · 18/10/2006 09:37

I guess it would not be a particularly good choice then if it is primarily a boarding school. If the minority are day pupils they may not fit in as well. Wish there was someone to post who already has children going there.

I have a totally biased view...

My ex-housemate at university went there. He wasn't the nicest of people and refused to cough up his share of the bills, despite a very active social life and frequent donations of cash from his parents.

The rest of us were on full grants and weren't amused one bit.

children of some close friends went there and did very well academically ..both now at cambridge ... but hate to say it, they were terribly stuck up children . horribly condescending when they visited our home which whilst not mansion-like is still very nice . both are totally lacking in any appreciation of how other people with less money live . i recall they did have some fantastic extra curricular activites though.

justhaddinner · 19/10/2006 20:54

Thanks guys, its not looking too good is it. The ability to fit in wherever is far more important than being 'posh' (we are actually . I thinks I'll pass, it was just a thought anyway.

I went to the sort of good comp in Hertfordshire where people would send their daughters, while sending their sons to private schools... a story for another thread, i think

one of my friends was v bright, sent by her parents to Haileybury for sixth form. She was overwhelmed by Boys in Proximity (we were single sex) and the possibilities of sneaking out for booze and drugs, did v poorly in her exams and didn't go to uni. She would have been groomed for Oxbridge if she'd stayed at the comp. A failure for their housemaster system, as well as for her, I think, but in fairness that was a long time ago
