Y6 teacher concerns for D and why oh why is it all about SATS

Hi, my D is a late Aug baby and does well (av ability) in class.
Now in Y6 and school is pushing hard towards KS2 SAT work and results and I am concerned. D was put up a level in class for maths before the end of last year and was really chuffed and doing very well. Now Y6 teacher has moved her down without a word to her or me.
Last week teacher told all kids in class that those who were having extra help from maths tutors (outside of school) were doing it all wrong! No explanation to the kids or parents. So I went to see teacher. D is in a maths club - 1 of 6 kids for an hour each week and loves it. Wanted to know how to help. Teacher said she had no concerns with D and maths work was fine. So why move D down?
D found out today she had gone down a level when her math book had a different colour on it in class as the lesson was about to start. Teacher had said nothing. She came home really fed up. Told her not to worry and it just meant she could get less work done but more question right!
Im getting around to thinking kids in the middle level are sort of expected just get on. Pupils in top levels get pushed and guided and bottom levels get assistance and intervention. "Just leave the middle lot..they'll be OK - make a big group of them they'll be fine" is that what goes on?
Should I ask to see the teacher or leave it for a while. What to do when the Teacher is not very approachable?

Did you actually ask the teacher why she had moved your dd down? In my experience, the usual female "going round the houses"way of asking questions doesn't work with teachers - you need to be very direct and fearless and ask one question at a time (that's why my dp always does this bit!

Only happend today. I'll have to make an appointment to see the teacher, when shes available.... Parents can use the kids diaries to make any comments in, which get taken in to school everyday, but not looked at for about a week. But yes a direct apprach is a good idea. Just worried I was making too much of it.
