Never heard of storyworlds. Is there a website?

Gobbledispook · 12/10/2006 18:28

Just found them on a website - no, our school doesn't use this scheme but do use lots of others all mingled together.

Think most reading schemes have various levels to them. Our school use a colour system to differentiate the reading levels.
There will be a variety of books available in each box (eg: Oxford Reading Tree, Storyworld, New Way, Jelly and Bean etc) & the child has to read a variety of different books from each box & be confident reading them before moving up to the next reading level.
Your childs school may do it totally different to this, but the range of books is not an indication of the reading level, IYSWIM.

Storyworld stages 4-6 equates to Y1 QoQ.

Pinkchampagne · 12/10/2006 18:31

Oh sorry! Just re-read your post & realised that you were asking what level of Storyworld other MN'ers children were on, not what level your child should be on if they are reading Storyworld! Dur - ignore me!!!

so basically I'm being a completely neurotic mother and from a boy that could only read his own name 1yr ago he's actually doing really well .

QoQ, the range of reading in Yr1 is amazing, so I'm really not sure that you can compare. Some haven't yet got the grasp of blending whilst others will have a reading age of 9+. I know that it is inevitable to compare but try not to!

Pinkchampagne · 12/10/2006 18:40

Sounds like he is doing very well, QOQ! He has only just gone into year 1 & lots of our children that have just started yr 1 are still not reading at all.

Pinkchampagne · 12/10/2006 18:41

He is still very young. Try not to fret about his reading too much - he is doing well!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/10/2006 18:45

I know lady - I'm not even comparing him to others in his year - I have no idea where they're at as I don't talk to any of the mum's in his year ! I'd just got it into my head that he wasn't doing particularly well, despite my friend (a teaching assistant at the school) assuring me he was.....and even saying to me

"did you go to the parents evening on Tuesday night"

me: "no - I don't have any real concerns"

(the letter about it said "if you have concerns then you're welcome to come - if not don't worry we'll have a proper parents evening later in the term).

her: "you didn't get a letter asking you to see the teacher then????"

me: "no........"

her: "well in that case he's definitely doing fine - as those that aren't really where they should be at this stage were invited to come"

Suppose that should have made me feel better - but my pg hormones have been bugging me since then thinking he's doing terribly

You're pregnant QoQ?! Wow, I didn't know that!! Congratulations!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 13/10/2006 16:52

Oh gosh Gobble - you missed some drama on here a few weeks ago then! I took the morning after pill (within 12hrs of the deed). Tested 4 days before AF was due and got a BFP. I was stunned, but DH wanted me to get rid of it. I wrote him a letter explaining why I couldn't and 3 days later he agreed that we'd definitely have this no.3. Now here I am 6+3 !
