Removal of school uniform

Hi all

After reading many comments on here and other social media it has become apparent many of us are unhappy that our children are not allowed to remove items of uniform when they see fit due to them being too hot.

Some schools allow it only in classrooms. Other schools outright deny them.

I have set up a petition for the government to give the child the right to dress appropriately when they see fit.

Could I please ask all concerned parents to sign it and share with your friends. We need a lot of signatures to get this discussed.

Many thanks

Adele

You might want to re-consider the wording of your petition. It rather sounds as if you are advocating nudity within schools

There are still schools who do not allow the removal of clothing at all.

I propose that students be given the automatic right to remove items of uniform at any time when they see fit, due to climate and or personal reasons.

As noted above, IME teenagers' ideas of what is appropriate in terms of clothing does not generally coincide with the general understanding of the term. Which is probably why there are school uniform rules in the first place.

As a teacher I work in a school where, up until the June half term, students have to ask the class teacher to remove their blazer. After the half term, they do not need to bring it to school.

However, many kids interpret this to mean that they are 'not allowed' to removed it. Actually the rule is trying to take in account highly changeable weather conditions in our summers and to ensure students are never too cold.(you'd stunned at how many refuse to wear coats)

Are you sure that the school resumes to allow jumpers/blazers to be removed or is this a teenage interpretation of the reality??

iWork in a job where I visit many schools. Never have I seen this. Most schools have a summer uniform. Change schools if this really is an issue in your child's school-the rest of us are happy.

And there are many that DO NOT ALLOW UNIFORM TO BE REMOVED. ... SO NO IT IS NOT USED SENSIBLY.

Chapter and verse, please!
