Any EBD staff around?

Ds is at an ASD school and needs a calm environment in which to learn. We have become increasingly concerned about the behaviour of the pupils around him which are causing him to be anxious but school have regularly reassured us that this is well managed etc.

At the start of term a new teacher joined the school but left within a few days. We have now learnt that the teacher had encountered some 'challenging behaviour' and decided that the school was not for them. The teacher had previously worked at EBD schools and so was experienced in working with challenging pupils. I am now wondering just how bad the behaviour must have been to make the teacher leave. Any thoughts on this? We are looking to remove ds as soon as possible now because of several concerns we have.

I suggest you post this in the Special Needs - Children thread further down the page.

I have been in specialist ASD and/or EBD education for over 10 years. I think it is quite unlikely that you will find specialist provision without instances of challenging behaviour.

Is your DS just reaching an age where he is more aware of other pupils' actions? Or has he recently witnessed a child being hurt by a peer?

I don't expect there to be no challenging behaviour within school but am shocked at some major violent incidents as well as pupils spitting at staff, smashing windows etc. Ds is not like this and has sensory issues causing anxiety so a low arousal, quiet environment is required.

He has recently witnessed a pupil being punched hard in the face by another child and it seems worrying that staff couldn't prevent this happening.
