Your head teacher will put you in the stocks and throw test papers at you. Ooh, you're a brave woman going on holiday during SATS week...!!!

Hideehi · 05/10/2006 22:30

Seriously ? my sil is a teacher and she laughed and said i couldn't have planned it better.

nothing much but if your dc is expected level 4 or above you won't be very popular! (I am assuming they are year 6) As for their scored they will have teacher assessment...

Hideehi · 05/10/2006 22:41

No she's year 2 hence why i didn't really think anyone would be that bothered.

Nothing.

Saturn74 · 05/10/2006 22:54

Don't worry about it and have a great holiday.

My dd 1 missed them as we were abroad at the time and I was teaching them at home. School was miffed as it was a small cohort and she was a definite level 5, new school didn't mind at all - said they took no notice of them anyway.

Not sure where you are.....but if you're in one of those schools playing the system by getting their yr 2 sats to look bad so their yr 6 ones are stunning (value added) they'll probably have a whip around to help you out with the flights? (cynical emoticon)

portonovo · 06/10/2006 12:06

At our school they obviously couldn't stop you going, but they would refuse you permission so if you went anyway, it would go down as unauthorised absence. I don't know what ours does, but I know some local authorities would then fine the parent for the unauthorised absence.

Mind you, the other thing is that Year 2 Sats don't have to take place in one particular week anymore, so it might well be that your daughter wouldn't miss them or would take them another time - it's virtually all teacher-assessed now anyway.

loopybear · 06/10/2006 12:27

You can legally withdraw children from SATS not common knowledge!!! year 2 sats should be teacher assessment so should not be too problematic.

PeterCushion · 06/10/2006 16:32

I withdrew DS2 from the SATS in Yr2, loopybear.

sunnydelight · 06/10/2006 19:39

Depends on the school. I know DS2's school would be fine (the wonderful head teacher has in fact just authorised three weeks absence for us to Australia ). I remember at DS1s school the head sent nasty, threatening letters before SATS making it clear that she expected at least a couple of broken limbs or the death of a close relative if anyone missed them!

summer111 · 06/10/2006 22:27

dd missed half her Year 2 SAT's a couple of years ago, as we also had a family wedding to attend...the teacher just arranged for her to do those that were missed on our return.
dd was thrilled as she got to complete them in the staff room, as it was less disruptive than in the classroom. There were three children I think who were in the same boat...well it is wedding season!

schnapps · 07/10/2006 09:52

She'll probably have to do them when she's back at school. She might have to miss a few breaktmes/PE sessions etc to catch up.

Hideehi · 07/10/2006 10:55

She certainly will not be missing breaks and pe to do them, I'd hit the bloody roof if they even suggest it.
I suspect the school will just leave it, they are fantastic, everyone knows they are fantastic and they don't need league tables to prove it.

OP posts:
bilbo1 · 07/10/2006 11:29

She shouldn't have to catch up...and definitely not miss break times etc.
It's just not important enough.

The teacher's assesment of her level will be good enough.......don't know why we need to do all this rubbish testing anyway.....obviously no-one trusts that a teacher can judge her own classes' ability anymore!!!!!

Grrrrr!!!!

schnapps · 07/10/2006 22:46

Crikey, I didn't say that she SHOULD have to catch up/miss break/pe whatever. Simply letting you know what does happen in some schools, since you asked.

Hideehi · 07/10/2006 23:20

"She'll probably" seemed as though you were implying that would probably be what would happen. And it won't be. No big deal.

lol! Why ask then if you already knew the answer?
