Non-boarding options ater Chandlings?

hi, just wondering where kids go from chandlings in oxfordshire if you do not want to choose a senior boarding school? thanks

Abingdon
Magdalen
Teddies (can do day there, but it is a very long day)
Reading grammar school for boys (don't know the name) possibly
Cokethorpe

thanks both. you mentioned abingdon and cokethorpe, is there are reason why they do not go to the pre-prep or prep parts of these schools and carry on through? is chandlings considered better?

Chandlings finishes at 11, so not much point going on to prep school if you want to go to Abingdon afterwards. You'd simply switch to the lower school part of Abingdon at year 7.

I don't think many parents have a clear idea of senior school choice when their dc is 3 or 4 yrs old.
They may choose chandlings because it's convenient in location , or because it's co-ed. Or because it does horse riding for example.
There's a lot of schools to chose from around Oxford, and chandlings should be suggesting suitable schools for your dc to move onto.

I meant to add that Cokethorpe Junior is co-ed and the head used to be at Chandlings! The other point is that admissions to the senior parts of some schools with a linked prep is these days a highly competitive nightmare. I do not know of a prep school that admits kids with a guarantee of admission to the Senior department. So carrying on through to the Senior department is not a foregone conclusion and many parents have their kids apply to several schools in both private and state at 11 or 13. A few kids at Magdalen Junior have in recent years not made it through to the Senior School, despite having succeeded in the hard MCS Junior entrance procedure. People are coming from all over to try for many of these schools' senior depts, and the whole business is a nightmare.
