Private Schooling Affordability

Hello, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me as to affordability of Private School.

Myself and my partner have a combined income of about £100k pre tax and are looking into private schooling for our only dc which will be about £30k a year. Post tax and pensions our income is about £5k a month.

I think it would be doable but my partner disagrees... I'm not sure of all the extras that it entails above and beyond that £30k and how much I should roughly budget per month for it to be affordable.

Thanks :)

So the question is can you live on £2.5k pcm then?

Can you?

happygardening · 17/10/2014 17:21

Let's be realistic arsenic more like £2000 PCM to live on. Plenty of course live on less but it's all about individual outgoing.

Skylark

My dd would do well then because I haven't even heard of jack Wills Grin

Good old M&S, BHS, or Debs for us.

I wonder if I should ask tomorrow at the open day, oh and of course how many shoes they will need to fit in with others. Grin

I can't believe these people are like this and I can't understand why either.
At one time when many people could afford private I can understand people boasting of wealth, but its pretty obvious you are rich if paying for fees these days.

Do you understand it?

Bursaries are pretty generous and widely used by parents at private schools...at least the ones i know of in London.

Yes but the OP earns too much to qualify for a bursary, I would think. Scholarships can vary from full fees to being token and offering just a couple of hundred quid a year off.

I was very careful to say girls had a different view of clothes. Boys probably don't care and the parents certainly don't care. This is not always echoed in a boarding house and anyone thinking of boarding on a shoe string might need to be aware that girls can be competitive. Not MM children of course!!! But in the wider world ...... there are lots of things in the mix. I have had two DD's board and girls' boarding is very different to boys.

Geen in some schools she might qualify for a bursary especially if she has a significant mortgage/out goings.
