Can I bring my 2yo to school open morning?

It's an independent school which takes ages 2-11. It's an open morning rather than an individual visit, but I don't know how structured it will be. I could arrange childcare if necessary, but it's probably easier for me to bring her, and it would be nice to see how she responds to the place.

This is the first school I'll visit, and I don't know what the protocol is. Thanks for any advice.

Why don't you phone up the school and ask if they mind you taking your two year old round. I can't imagine there being a problem, unless your two year old really plays up and its a selective school.

i have never visited a private school open morning, but plenty of people take two year olds to see state schools. Lack of childcare is a common issue.

It really depends. We've seen four schools (both private and state) and it's a 50:50 split as to whether we've been allowed to take DS. Call and ask.

I wouldn't contemplate a school where you couldn't take the child who you may be applying for.

At ds's independent 3-11 year old school there are loads of activities set up for the children.

Ask the school, I have been to open days where there is a treasure hunt set up for the kids and ones where it is made clear that they aren't welcome. To be fair the latter was in schools that are physically smaller with less grounds.

I agree m, Pictures, the state school he wasn't allowed to visit is a very in demand school and this policy really put me off. They said it was to minimise disruption to pupils but on the day of our tour the place was almost empty due to school trip for all but the first two years. Unlikely to consider this school now.

Any open day is going to he a disruption to pupils if its held on a normal school day (lots in my areas have Saturday mornings or open evenings.

It's a bit different if its a private tour during a normal school day. You'd want any children to be old enough to understand how they have to behave in a classroom I guess eg go in quietly & don't disturb the class.

Thanks, everyone. Good point about it showing a school's attitude! I'll phone and ask them.
