Sorry, not sure

Headington School in Oxford has about 1000 girls so must be among the bigger ones, but is a private school

sugarquill · 21/09/2014 21:42

It's the independent schools I'm particularly interested in...Google is failing me!

Swanshurst in Birmingham I think.

Mintyy · 21/09/2014 21:55

Missed a vital word out of your thread title there huh?

NotALondoner · 21/09/2014 21:55

Doh it's not independant, sorry!

sugarquill · 21/09/2014 22:00

Most girls' schools will be independent, so not really fussed.

Sandbach Girls HS is rather large, with a 6th form. State school though.

Bluestocking · 21/09/2014 22:04

I believe Swanshurst in Birmingham is the largest girls' school in Europe, not just the UK. State school though so no good if you were looking for the largest independent girls' school.

BackforGood · 21/09/2014 22:06

Swanshurst in Birmingham has 1763 pupils - it's a state school though, not independent.

UniS · 21/09/2014 22:06

Ellen Wilkinson school for girls, Ealing, West London.
1454 on roll at time of 2014 ofstead inspection .
Comprehensive school.

BackforGood · 21/09/2014 22:10

Sugarquill - there are loads of girls' schools that aren't independent.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 21/09/2014 22:13

Tiffin girls' school? 150 pupils per year.

sugarquill · 21/09/2014 22:15

I'm surprised - single-sex comprehensives don't seem to get talked about much. I would have thought they'd be a lot more in demand since they offer one of the main things which parents want in a single-sex independent environment.

Maybe it depends where in the country you are.

Mintyy · 21/09/2014 22:19

Is Tiffin independent? I thought it was one of those strange super selective state schools.

neffi · 21/09/2014 22:32

Tiffins is, as mintyy says, a state grammar.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 21/09/2014 22:44

Ah, sorry.

Berkhampstead?

LineRunner · 21/09/2014 23:26

My daughter went to a state girls' school with over a thousand pupils. It's not unusual, to quote the Welsh fella.

MyOneandYoni · 21/09/2014 23:30

Chichester High School for Girls - over 1200.

Millais, Horsham - over 1500 (no sixth form).

Both West Sussex.

BackforGood · 22/09/2014 13:17

Just to satisfy my curiosity, why do you want to know ??

steppemum · 22/09/2014 13:22

there are girl's grammars in Cheltenham, Gloucester and Stroud. None of them the largest in the country though.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 22/09/2014 13:24
