Would anyone be able to translate this into Latin for me: " do it until you're told not to". I realise it's not great English to start with, so feel free to paraphrase or improve if necessary - hoping for a snappy motto to print on something for a friend for Christmas.

No idea, but try Google translate

My Latin is far to rusty to attempt the whole, but I think "do it" is 'fec' (which could be a good start!)

Thanks - that does sound promising! Will try google and see what it comes up with.

How about: Donec dictum tincidunt facere
(Google translate for 'do it until you are told to stop')

eatyourveg · 21/09/2014 07:38

donec nuntiatum prohibere - google says this is continue until told to stop

Friend doesn't speak Latin, and yes it it is a bit poncy, but that's kind of the idea Smile She joked that it's her life motto, so I thought it would be funny to have it made into a mock coat of arms or something.

do you mean it in the sense of "do it, because you know you want to, and nobody has specifically said that you aren't supposed to (yet), so do it until you are actually you shouldn't be", or "do it, and continue doing it, until the point where someone says stop"?

I'd think the translation would be very different for both of them (not that I can help with that!). But the 'continue until told to stop' versions might not carry the right sense, if she means it in a sort of "wild, to-hell-with-rules, nobody has actually said I can't so I will" philosophy
