Just out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone's children had had some time off school ill in the new term?

DD1 is now on her 3rd day with a horrendous cough and nearly being sick with it.

None but it's early days. Your poor DD. Has she just started school?

Radley · 21/09/2006 09:31

she is 7 and has just started juniors, she has thurs, friday off last week and last night went to a tobogganing party and came home with her clothes sopping wet, hence all night she was coughing and this morning has a temp and was nearly sick AGAIN through coughing, she had alot of time off last year through the same thing and I didn't really want her to have much time of this year, but, can't be helped.

She has just gone back to bed for a lie down and to read a book.

DD started last Wed, and was off yesterday and again today with horrid bug that she has so lovingly shared with me! Another day of us both vomiting then, lovely! lol

Radley · 21/09/2006 09:38

TBH I think dd1 is like me, I tend to pick up every bug thats going round with a vengeance. I just wish I knew what to do with regards to her constantly getting colds that go to her chest, the doctors say that she is not astmatic (sp?) but she gets so ill with it.

DS is already full of a cold, but he is still going every day, if he was feeling poorly with it or had a temp I wouldn't send him, but I think if he didn't go everytime he had a cold he would spend much more time at home than he does at school. He is 4, just started in reception.

None. My kids do seem very healthy - thankfully. Apart from slight colds they don't get anything.

ssd · 21/09/2006 12:42

ds1 had 2 and 1/2 days due to horrible bug.

ds2 none.

My friend's dd is off school and in hospital with an infection! I think for those who are susceptible, the start of a new school year is often a bad time because the children are getting together again and sharing all the lovely germs they picked up on holiday etc. Hope all the poorly ones get well soon.

marthamoo · 21/09/2006 15:38

It was ever thus.

Ds1 has already had 1 day off with a hacking cough and cold. His friend had 2 days off - same thing. Ds2 is starting with it now and I'm hoping he can make it to the weekend!

alison222 · 21/09/2006 16:07

DS has had one day off with a bad bump on the back of his head - I was clled to collect him at 9.45 - I hadn't even go home as I had been in the nursery class with DD for her pre-starting visit. He had another day off on Monday after a bug - headaches dizzy and horrendous cough/cold and has been sent home at lunch today after vomiting. So not too good a start

DD1 tops the lot because she hasn't even been to school yet this term! We moved during the Summer hols at a very short notice, and nobody wants her! I had a glimmer of hope yesterday when I discovered a school that wasn't full, but they can't see us until next Friday (Sept 29th!!!) The LEA didn't send me the forms the first time I asked for them, so I asked again, and got them about 5 days later, where they were for primary schools! (She should have started Yr 7). We came from an area where we had the Primary/Middle/Upper system, so Yr 7 was no big deal, but in our new area it is the first year of secondary, so quite important. Why doesn't anyone care that she has had 3 weeks extra off school. They'd care if I took her on holiday for 3 weeks, I'm sure.

mell2 · 22/09/2006 11:27

oh m1m1rie that is so unfair! Why can't they see you until next week? If everybody had got their act together your dd could have started with everbody else and they could have been all 'new' together.

You're right about them not letting you have 3 weeks holiday! Hope your dd settles in ok when she does eventually start.

m1m1rie · 22/09/2006 12:54

I don't know why we can't be seen until next week, it just seems a bit odd that nobody seems particularly bothered that she hasn't started a school yet. We have been doing a few things at home, but she's not very compliant with me, and I'm afraid I'm not exactly blessed with patience, plus I work p/t which makes things even more difficult. Oh well...
