What happens if you move house?

Sorry to sound dim, but I'm new to the school admission procedures etc etc.

The scenario is, if I get my first choice to primary school, then after my child has started at this school we then move house to a different school catchment area, will my child be able to stay at the first school, or will they have to move?

Second scenario is - what would happen if we get accepted at first school, then move before school term actually started, could my child then start the first school?

Thanks in advance!

once in they can stay in.
Not sure about second scenario. Does the form say adress at certain date? Will look at my form.

thought someone else might have helped you here!

Think it might depend on which borough you are in as to 2nd scenario....

I would think in both scenarios - once you're in, you're in.

Our admission for primary gave the impression that where you were on say February 15th (the closing date for applications) was what mattered.

It's where you live at the time of application that matters. Once you're in, you're in, no matter whether you move. OTOH, if you move a ridiculous distance away, the school might query your child remaining in the school. If you're moving to another catchment area, and want to apply within that catchment, then you need to have exchanged before the cutoff date for applications.

As PrettyCandles says, it's where you live at the time of application that counts. Remember though if it is not a "through" primary school (infants and juniors) and you have to apply again for a place at the affiliated junior school if you have moved out of the catchment area your child may not get a place at the junior school with her/his friends. Some LEAs have also amended the sibling rule so that it only applies if you are still living within a certain distance of the school.

For us, it was were you were on the date of applicationt hat mattered.

We potentially had a different situation (which in the end changed) However, we thought we would be in this scenario: buying a new house in catchment of good school, exchanged on new build but not in until after deadline. Was told by LEA that because we would have exchanged, then we would be classed as being in the catchment. Useful info for anyone else in similar dilemma.
