Dyslexia, private schools, sharp elbows... Is this true?

Radio 4's Today programme has been talking about whether private school pupils with dyslexia are more likely to get extra time in exams.

This is entirely counter to everything I've read here - where its generally argued that only state schools do this properly.

DC both were diagnosed with dyslexia, (very weak memories & processing skills but high IQs) at their indie schools, while this was missed at their state schools. They were given 25% extra time in all exams & this continued at their state sixth form when they were reassessed. DD moved to another local college for year 13 where she was told because she was on a level 3 course, she didn't need the extra time or extra support! I had to fight to get DD what she deserved but in the end, DD gave up as the support she was offered was so poor.

This is just my personal opinion which shows my DC were let down more in state education; however they've also experienced fantastic dyslexia support in both sectors.

All children should be taught touch typing at school. It's a useful skill in today's society.

The evidence is that hand writing strengthens the learning process and using a keyboard may impair this.

Chikdren at school in the US and UK spend far too much time learning useless things such as music theory, packaging design, and so on. I attended a private school, and can still remember my folks' ire when they realized mime lessons were part of the curriculum, but typing was an expensive extra.
