Where do boys living in Oxford go who don't get in/ aren't suited to magdalen college school?

Well, the title says it really. This is all highly speculative as my DS hasn't started reception yet!!!

From the people I know with kids privately educated around Oxford, most of their boys have gone from their prep to magdalen college at 11/13. There are four independent girls secondaries in oxford, but seems to be a lack for boys. I guess some go to St Edwards but it virtually costs the same as boarding to be a day pupil so for us would not be doable.

Just wondering really....any insights welcome.

I know a bit about New College and it's a truly amazing school, so I'd start with that bit - don't go for Abingdon if the commute is tricky, it's just not worth it in terms of quality of life. Since your ds is 3, you have plenty of time to rethink options and the school will advise and support accordingly. But they'll give him a fantastic start.

Thanks :)
Nice to hear something good about new college!

Move house in Headington so you can get into St Andrews - a nice easy commute for all.

Or for something completely different, there is the Montessori school in Elsfield. Very quick to reach if you live near the Ring Road.

Have you tried Magdalen College Junior School - they take from 7 (I think) and then you have a goodchance of getting through the 11+ entrance exam. Another great school is Leckford Place from 11+ which is a very small and friendly school with amazing results for it's size. Most people mistakenly believe that D'Overbroeck's is a crammer, but it is just a big international 6th form college which also gets amazing results. I have son's at both these school and they are very, very happy at them.

Thanks. I will look into leckford place for future ref - i did have the idea it was rather less academic, but it is possible that will suit when the time comes.
MCS junior is an option for 7+ either from new college or state if nopreprep place comes our way.

Solver cote is now considered to be the best primary in North Oxford not Phil and Jim.
