Which school for DD?

DD will leave her prep school next July and needs a place for year 9 entry in September 2015. She is currently a boarder as she is a chorister, but only about 15 miles from home so we see her frequently. She's very bright (skipped a school year), enjoys sport but not 1st team material, enjoys her music but by no means a superstar and doesn't want a music scholarship (which is fine by us). She'd consider boarding but we can't afford the fees and don't qualify for bursary support. Day school would need to be in easy travelling distance of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Any suggestions of what may suit her best? Boarding would be fine IF we can find a way to fund it.

But surely all this must have been discussed and sorted out with her current school? Quite a long time ago...

Why do you say that zero? Yes some discussions have been had but school open days are coming up next term and registration forms submitted by christmas. We're not exactly running out of time and don't intend to apply for schools you put your name down for years in advance! I'm just asking for thoughts as to where mightbe a good fit for her based on the informion given.

OP It might be helpful if you could say why, at this stage, you don't apparently have even a shortlist of prospective senior schools.

(Every end of yr 7 prep school boarder that I know will by now either have a conditional place for 2015, or be on a waiting list with a back up place reserved. I don't know any with no offer at all - but where a child had no offer their HM would be working ceaselessly to find them a school...)

Has something gone awry with her current school or have you not liked their suggestions?

Or have I completely misunderstood your query?

Amazingly we cross-posted! Did you really mean 2015?

My dd is about to start durham high school for girls as a yr 7 - we've been very impressed so far, they are keen on sport and music too... Obviously am only speaking from outsider looking in at the moment...

Zero, it's not really like that up here. If we go for a day school, you wouldn't normally apply for a place until Autumn term of the year before entry so there's really no drama. We do have a shortlist but keep wavering as to which would be the best fit for DD so wondered if anyone had any other thoughts. Boarding might be different but as I say, we can't afford it unless you know of anywhere which would give her a massive scholarship - don't qualify for bursaries.
Myrtle, we're not sure about a girls school - and Durham is probably in the wrong direction for us from a practical point of view.
