state or private.
we could move within this area to suit dc2 who is mildly "but significantly" ASD.
Currently year 4 so looking for secondary/senior school. Very much into performing arts/music.

thanks.

The Marlborough School at Woodstock has a specialist unit attached to the school with the aim of supporting as needed, whilst encouraging integration too. No direct experience of it, but have heard v. good things about it from colleagues (am a teacher)

HtH

I think somewhere like Bruern Abbey would do well with a DC with HF ASD as there will be enough overlap (sensory issues, processing issues etc) with the SpLD they more traditionally work with.

Maybe worth a try? You could go there to Y8 and they take their advice about where next.

Thanks. Will look into both those schools.

Any thoughts on lord Williams at Thame anyone??

Ah, yeah, that would make her stand out a bit at Bruern! What about Unicorn?

happygardening · 24/05/2014 18:12

I was going to say Unicorn according to a couple of friends who've know it since it started it's really well regarded locally.

Isn't unicorn only up to 13 though? I really want senior suggestions. She can stay where she is until y6, but it's after that I'm thinking about.

I was just thinking that if you moved to a specialist place now they would be able to give you really good advice about where to go next once they really know your DD.

oh I see your point. Yes, thats actually a good idea which I hadn't thought about.

oh gosh, more decisions.

Pity you're not more towards Herts, I'd have suggested looking at Egerton Rothesay in Berkhamsted. Just down the A41 from Aylesbury. They are specialist (but private) - their website says "We provide specialist input for pupils who need some form of additional support, perhaps because of a specific educational need – such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language issues or sectors of the autistic spectrum – or for a more general problem with learning."

They do have a 6th form.

Don't have personal experience, just see a minibus in mornings and occasionally drive past it!

thanks moon bells - I'll check that one out. There is some flexibility as to where we will love to. Need to access Oxford and London.

Waddesdon school is highly regarded for special needs support, and is 6 miles outside Aylesbury on the A41 towards Oxford. The closest rail link to London would be Aylesbury Vale Parkway to Marylebone. It is the most sought after non grammar school in Bucks, so would be wise to be living in the catchment area. Although with a statement it might be possible to get in without living in the catchment.
