6 year olds getting GCSEs

There is a report today of 6 yr old twins getting GCSE grades F and G in Maths and Statistics. I can't imagine children of that age studying and taking exams anyway but if they can only achieve F and G is there any point in going through the process at such a young age. Does the fact that they have "passed" indicate a low general standard of GCSE courses, how little would they have had to learn to get those grades ?

to my mind any reasonably intelligent 6 year old could be coached enough to get a grade G at gcse - it is not a particularly demanding achievement.

A bit like teaching your dog to catch peanuts in its mouth. What's the point? If they can get those grades now, why not do them when they are teenagers and get As? (Like everyone else. )

My thoughts exactly, LIZS. Why coach them for a year to get such poor grades? Why not wait until they can get an A* in their teens? I too would be interested to see what you need to be able to answer to get a G and F in GCSE maths - presumably it is still more difficult than what you would typically be able to do in Y1.

lasttimei wasteaching, five years ago,to geta grade g in double science gcse you only needed to get 14% of the marks available. so not a big acheivement.
