Do you have a sensitive boy at Latymer Upper?

I've always been very enthusiastic about DS going to Latymer Upper, but am starting to have second thoughts as he is a relatively sensitive, sweet boy and the pupils I know at Latymer appear to be er ...rather streetwise and/or old for their ages. He's sat the exam, and already has a place at a boys school further out of town. Experience of sons at Latymer and/or advice would be very welcome.

I understand your feelings ginger as I was also very concerned that my sensitive DS1 would struggle in the supposedly streetwise, urban atmosphere at Latymer Upper. He is now in Y9 and it hasn't been an issue for him at all. He has a fantastic group of friends, both girls and boys, some sensitive and others definitely not! They go bowling, visit each others houses, go to ice cream parlours and help each other with homework - they are not streetwise or urban and don't want to be. Of course there are a few kids who are/want to be cool, but I'm sure that's the same in any school.

HTH and good luck with your decision.

Agree absolutely with everything that cleadale says. DS is in Y7 at LU so early days but he loves it and settled really quickly. Has made lots of friends, many of whom I've met, and they are just normal 11/12 year olds and not overly streetwise at all.

I too had similar misgivings before we accepted the place but so far they have proved totally unfounded.

Good luck with interview and your decision.

Thank you Cleadale and Marni for taking the time to post. It is reassuring to know you both made the decision, and are happy with your choices.

Gingerbeard
Another boy in y7 at LUS here. Enjoying v much the academic side and has already made good friends. Lots of quirky interesting kids around. So far no pressure to try to be who/what you're not which is nice.
