How can I help him learn his lines, any suggestions? There are 2 characters in the script only

What works for us:
I say the line
They repeat line
Repeat until remember
Once all their lines learnt I then take the part of other person so they learn cues
Once learnt that I make odd mistakes in my part so it doesn't throw them if happens for real

At school we were told that walking around whilst learning lines is more successful than sitting down.

Record it for him so that he can keep listening to them eg play it in the car, last thing at night etc.
Keep practising them with him - perhaps actually acting it out rather than just sitting might help (unless the actor has to be sitting Grin), or setting out the scene.

Definitely play the other part, go through the scenes as if you were rehearsing, let him use the book at first and then gradually come off script. Throw yourself into it, be that person, encourage him to think about his character and what it means.
