I am thinking about doing a degree (as by 2015 you will need a degree to run a nursery)

Do they DO degrees in childcare?

If so where?

I can do it OU...apparently

AND my years at uni when I was 19 count - possibly towards as much as a third of an open degree

I was offered a place on the early years course at UWIC last year, so yes they definitely do them. T=You can count credits towards a degree in a bricks and mortar Uni too, by negotiation.

So I would only need to do 240 points (basically 2 yrs F/t or 4 yr P/T

fgs why would need a degree???!!!!

Katymac, please explain why the government think it is so important?

Our local college does a Foundation degree in Eary Years Studies which takes 2 years full-time or 3 years part-time. Full-time is two days a week.

They just need to assess whether your qualifications/experience place you at level three currently to access the course.

The foundation degree is a recognised degree in it's own right and is ideally suited to mature students. You can add an extra year to get a full BA and tack a PGCE on the end of that too.

I start in September and I'm really looking forward to / dreading starting.

I am doing a Foundation Degree in september too, I really like the way you can do the two years and then 'add on'. Sounds ideal

Haven't got a clue but in 2015 I will be 47 - so I guess I will want to be in charge

Katymac · 05/07/2006 17:50

I have a degree in teaching and work as a childminder.

I cannot say that it has been any help whatsoever when supervising them cutting out, or when they are fighting.

Katymac does having a degree in childcare guarantee a higher salary in the private sector?

Katymac · 05/07/2006 19:56

No It's simply that by 2015 you will need a degree to supervise a nursery - as I am thining of opening a nursery - I need to consider if i will be allowed to run it in 11 yrs time
