Surely there must be some sort of reasonable accommodation for kids with speech problems? Or if you can't talk at all is it impossible for you to get a decent mark in GCSE English?

I think the speaking and listening thing is such a good idea, and I am sorry that it's being cut back but surely, surely a child who can't talk shouldn't be penalized?

The speaking and listening part of the GCSE doesn't exist anymore - so it won't be an issue for current Yr10s and 11s with speech issues.

I didn't fully understand why there was no application for dispensation for Musharraf - in the same way that my Dyspraxic DS who struggles to write gets to use a laptop, other children get scribes etc. It did seem odd that there was no mechanism to help those children with speech difficulties - Musharraf can't have been the only one.

this explains what can be done

I would imagine the exam board will have been made aware of it at the time the S+L marks were submitted. I've done similar myself.

Thank you!

Brufin- that was interesting. Sad about losing the speaking and listening element- I thought it was really important, but I suppose I can see why after last night.

I believe they are keeping it for the English IGCSE (which is good for the dyslexics who are good talkers but bad spellers).
