Any ideas for end of year present for reception teacher?

Don't want to go over the top but want to say thanks somehow. DD1 has done a lovely card with pics of teacher, teaching assistants, her (all big smiley faces)

thought about charity donation - something educational such as school books, etc.

dd1 wants to give a copy of her favourite book from home that they don't have at school

any ideas, teachers any thoughts?

personally...I'd send nothing other than a card written by the child.

The teacher will get a ton of other crap that will probably end up in the bin so don't waste your money.

Maybe I'm just a tight miserable cow though.

A copy of your dd's favourite book would be a lovely idea - personal and useful. As a Reception teacher I think I spent more money on story books than anything else!
(and homemade cards, with a word from parents and child are the things I have appreciated and remembered best)

We've all clubbed together as DD1's teacher is a long term supply and leaves this week.
She has been fantastic.
So we've got her some vouchers for a beauty salon and flowers.

The book idea is lovely, we're donating some of the sluglet's books to the nursery when she leaves.

Me and madam slug bake her teachers muffins because she loves baking and food that can be shared always goes down well in the staffroom.

Last yr, my dds class we clubbed together and got her teacher a lovely watch, and handbag and jewellery for the teaching assistant.
this yr we're clubbing together again .. saves the teachers receiving 20 boxes of chocs or 20 bouquets of flowers

I think in the past on threads like these, the teachers who replied almost all said they loved home made things and wine best.

I think we will do a homemade card - and wine. I think his reception teacher deserves a big drink!

The mums have all clubbed together, and will be getting the teachers vouchers from the class.

As far as a personal gift, dd will make a card. We also spent Saturday at the Pottery Cafe decorating/painting a coffee mug. It will be glazed this week, and we'll pick it up on Saturday. DD is so pleased with her gift - but I had a big job to convince her that maybe the teacher would prefer a mug to the ceramic cat or piggy bank that were far more appealing to dd!

It sounds ever so ungrateful, but I would rather not get any presents. You end up sharing chocs out for months, needing 3 baths a day to get through the toiletries etc. My favourite things are always cards the children have done themselves - with name written BY THE CHILD! I also always really appreciate a card/letter from the parent saying nice things (but obviously only if they have nice things to say!)
Love the book idea though.
