Just had a txt to say our school will be open and that there will be no industrial action by the staff.
Relieved about this despite supporting the teachers.

Wondering how many schools thos will affect.

Haven't heard anything either way here.

timetosmile · 25/09/2013 10:25

Letter from our primary says its open. Not heard from High School yet.

Lovemy3kids · 25/09/2013 10:26

haven't heard anything yet! I have 3 DC at 2 different schools - hope they are all the same and stay open - causes havoc workwise!

Myliferocks · 25/09/2013 10:28

Another one who hasn't heard either way yet. My DC go to 3 different schools but I have the option of taking one DC into work if only one is off.

bringonyourwreckingball · 25/09/2013 10:29

Two classes in, everyone else off.

CatAmongThePigeons · 25/09/2013 10:32

Our part of the country is on strike on the 17th, so there's nothing known here yet, if it is like the previous strike, 50% of the staff will be in.

Luckily I don't work so it doesn't impact me either way, but I know it's a PITA for working parents.

KittiesInsane · 25/09/2013 10:35

One is open for 6th form only, the other for yr 7s only Confused.

lunar1 · 25/09/2013 10:37

yes but its independent if that makes a difference.

Mumof3xx · 25/09/2013 10:52

3 classes in rest off

Fayrazzled · 25/09/2013 10:55

We don't know yet. In the past, some classes have been in and some out. Two other primary schools in the town have made the decision to close, which a) gives parents some notice to arrange childcare and b) means parents don't know which teachers were in or out on strike.

my2bundles · 25/09/2013 11:23

My sons is open my daughters in closed.

Sparklingbrook · 25/09/2013 11:25

Secondary-over 1/2 the staff striking so closed except Yr 12 and 13.

Middle School- Closed to Year 6 and 7, and two out of five year 5 classes.

nipersvest · 25/09/2013 11:27

yes, both dc's schools are open. dd just started yr 7 and they did say they were striking, but yesterday confirmed that although some staff are striking, they have enough in to stay open.

OddBoots · 25/09/2013 11:34

We won't know until the day, both have said that they might close.

secretscwirrels · 25/09/2013 15:27

Open to Year 11s only.

baskingseals · 25/09/2013 15:30

High school is closed. Don't know about primary

losingtrust · 25/09/2013 17:21

Both my DCs off. Doesn't bother me but it may bother the librarians who will have them in the library all day when I am at work meetings! Mind you some of the people losing their homes due to bedroom tax and others being auto enrolled into massively inferior pensions may not have much sympathy. Don't know the unions don't drop the pensions issue or drop it in to the small print and concentrate on Public friendly issues such as the constant need for performance in the classroom and the contract changes for academies and free schools. These are all valid points to strike on but using the slogan 'no to working longer, paying more and getting lower pensions' will in fact impact on every employee in Europe and therefore it is a really poor slogan to highlight by the unions. They ought to highlight the conditions and give some examples to the public of the negative impact on kids to get any sympathy. These are valid arguments.

MirandaWest · 25/09/2013 17:22

We've been told there will be disruption but they don't know yet which classes will be shut. I'd quite like to know tbh

chicaguapa · 25/09/2013 17:24

I agree. I think teachers are let down by their unions. DH wants to pay £200 to join his and I'm a bit Hmm.

icecubed · 25/09/2013 17:25

Our primary is closed

creamteas · 25/09/2013 21:21

My DCs secondary is closed.

AllTwerkNoPlay · 25/09/2013 21:24

Primary is closed. Is shit as we are relying heavily on FSM Sad

SockPinchingMonster · 25/09/2013 21:30

Our primary is closed for 2 classes who have striking teachers but open for the rest of the school. Thankfully my dc's class is not affected.

pointythings · 25/09/2013 22:25

Primary is open, secondary is open to Yrs 7 and 8 but not 9, 10 and 11 (presumably because that age group are considered OK to be at home by themselves if they have working parents) and specific sessions for Yrs 12 and 13 are cancelled but supported self study is on offer. It sounds as if they're really trying to mitigate the impact, kudos to them.

I utterly support the teachers. The firemen too.

bryte · 26/09/2013 08:01

My children's primary school is closed. We got quite a lot of warning that it was likely to be and then full confirmation yesterday.
