How far away would you live from your child's school?

We are thinking of moving to North Devon and think we have chosen a school, we now have to figure out where to live. Our preferred place does have a bus that runs to the school but it is quite a long journey considering the ages of our kids. Thoughts please :)

We are lucky and only a 5/10 minute walk from the school. There are others in the immediate area who have a 30 minute walk. My daughter's friend gets the school bus but is the first pick up on the route at 7.50am - it's only a 10 minute car drive away. It's worth looking at the County Council website/talking to the school and finding out which buses service the school and then the timetable to see how long travel is.

I realize you are concerned with the right school and travel, but do think about forming friendships in new areas. If they are close to the school, it will be so much easier for them to meet up in the holidays/weekends - my daughter has two lovely friends further away, but she sees the ones a lot closer a lot more often as they can just walk to each others rather than having to worry about buses, if a parent can give a lift.

DD's school is 12 miles away. Nearest secondary school is 7 miles however (so nowhere is uber close). It takes around 25 minutes to drive her one way - fast route down a major trunk road (I collect in the afternoon) and her journey on the school bus in the morning is 45 minutes

Seems like 20 mins each way would be tops for Primary - by car that is
