Anyone know any good books to help my dd practise her writing?

My dd is coming up 6. She would be in Yr one in England, but we are in Scotland so she is just finishing her first year of school - we break up this week.

She showed no interest in starting to write before she went to school, which didn't concern me, but while she adores it, and spends a lot of the time writing messages to us (her parents) and her friends, she clearly needs some practise; her report specified size and spacing, but I also notice some confusion between upper and lower case.

I really don't want to do any formal "coaching"/practise over the summer, and hoped that Usbourne Books might do something fun to encourage her to spend some time going over it, but they don't. Does anyone know of any book/s that she could work through - and have fun at the same time?

\link{http://www.galt.co.uk/\Galt} do a couple for 5+ on Handwriting and Cursive Writing and we've also used the I Can Learn series and the Letts KS1 series with Horrible Handwriting.

With reference to the books, it is difficult to know what to recommend as so many schools teach writing in different ways. Dd's school does cursive writing so we have found the \link{http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1870946502/203-2244778-0692762\Jolly Phonics} Workbooks are good for this - even if your school doesn't do cursive, if she is starting to do joined up writing, they have lots of little joined-up writing exercises. There is lots of individual letter work aswell. You may want to have a look at them in a shop before you decide to get them in case you think they are too young for her.

The other set of books that are quite good are the \link{http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1843151073/ref=br_lf_b_8/203-2244778-0692762\Basic Skills} books (think you can get them in WHSmiths and places like that). I haven't actually seen inside this book (only one of the ones aimed at younger children) but I thought it was quite good.

I think you'll probably need to try and find some in a shop to see if it fits in with the writing she's been taught. Good luck! We have an unwilling writer (the same age) who has just started writing which is fantastic though we too are all over the place with size (think this is quite common at their age)!
