May I ask this question?

Can you learn part-time to become a teacher who is qualified to teach at a primary or secondary school?

This question is from someone who thinks of switching jobs.

My sincere thanks,

Uni of Greenwich does a part-time PGCE; a friend of mine did hers in 2 years. She did her placements full-time though.

www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/teacher-training-options for the official advice on routes into teaching ... and good luck!

I looked at studying part time but in reality the workload was almost as much as doing it full time! It's only the uni assignments that are part time the placements still have to be completed full time. I decided to bite the bullet and go for the full time option and I'm glad I did now.

You can do a secondary PGCE part-time for some subjects through the Open University. The study part of it is independent and part-time, at your own speed, but the teaching practice is by necessity a full-time commitment for the duration of each placement. I did it with a toddler and a baby and found it very, very tough!

Hi Biscuitsneeded, thank you for your insight. Do you think it matters where we studied in order to find a teaching job? Is there any implicit discrimination?

Thank you
