How much do tutors cost?

I'm just finishing off a specialist dyslexia teaching course and am planning to do some tutoring (have already had a few enquiries from people I know). What's a fair going rate to pay for an hour? Published rates seem huge to me. Iknow I'm very well qualified etc but would just like to know what other people pay. We're in SE England but very rural by the way.
Many thanks.

Around £25 - £30 an hour is the going rate around here for academic tutoring in the child's house.

A friiend I know pays £32 an hour for each child, that's for age 11 upwards. She also does specialist tuition for dyslexic children, but you have to go to her. (St Albans)

It depends on the area. From September dh will be charging £25 per hour for music tutoring with students coming to him. We are in the Midlands/North West.

Am a Biology teacher and have been doing on/off tutoring at this time of year for last seven years, while onyl working part time. Often do it for free (!!) when it is friends' children but charge £25 an hour for GCSE and A level, when I do charge. Starting back full time in Sept (hooray!) as both kids will be at school so no more tutoring!

Many thanks. Maybe I'd better avoid teaching the children of friends as I hate asking for money! Ideally I'd like some part time work at a school but I know how appalling funding is.

As far as funding goes, you're best off in either a private school or an inner city school. I charge £20/£25 BTW.

I have tutored friends kids for free, but I charge £25 an hour for private tuition. I also teach biology.

Thing is in a small rural community everyone's a "friend"!
