Single lower SATs result?

Dd is bright, a good all-rounder.
SATs results came back, level 6 for all but a couple of level 5s.
Her teacher-assessed science mark was 5c, am I right in thinking this is lower? (The marking scheme just baffles me, no matter how many times I get it clear in my mind, I just get Confused )

Obviously I'm not 'concerned' as such, the results are fab and the science mark is just for school I believe.
Just curious because she's had a different teacher for science this year who hasn't been in the role for long, am I going to sound like a pushy parent if I ask her class teacher about it?

You're going to look like a loon, honest. Let it go.
It's based on a one-off snapshot, DD got 6 for spelling overall but missed something really simple, like spelling queue as que (she realised on the day).

You got sub levels? We only got whole numbers (so 4 not 4a etc.).
DD got all same number in everything except one thing, in what is supposed to be her best subject, too. Tantrum & tears but then shrugged it off saying "Oh well, it WAS the hardest of the tests!"
Did I mention she had struggled in after a tummy bug, had to do 5 or 7 tests on the Tuesday? She's a soldier, anyway.

Sublevels are meaningless. There is no official document that says what a 5c in science means. Different departments will assess them in different ways, as will different schools, making fair comparison impossible.

lljkk L6 spelling? I thought there was only one grammar and spelling paper and the most you could get on it was 5A? Did your DD sit a L6 spelling paper?

OP, we have never been given sublevels for science. Just a number. Teacher said the highest it could be is 5 anyway.

lljkk · 13/07/2013 10:35

um, um (scramble to find paperwork), you're right, it is a mark in G+Spelling, I just remembered DD & Friend laughing at selves over simple words they had misspelt, but Dd got a good mark anyway, iyswim. I was trying to make the point that even very clever kids (people) can make silly mistakes, don't take the SAT results so seriously.

They still mean more to the school targets than to individuals.

wasjustwondering · 13/07/2013 14:40

Just had another look, the 5c for science is in her report not on the sheet, the actual sheet doesn't have sublevels (confused, too many reports for too many children!)

So the highest possible mark in Grammar Punctuation & Spelling was 5?
Dd got L5 in that as well as the Speaking and Listening teacher assessment and Science teacher assessment, L6 in everything else :)

Must stop being so Monica and concentrate on letting her know how chuffed we are Grin

Thanks for the reassurance and info Flowers

Well done to your dd, lljkk, the schedule was gruelling even without illness added into the mix, you must be v. proud!

Thanks. :)
I was proud that she tried so hard to get the best results, iyswim. It's mostly good that she's so ambitious, but it's sometimes a PITA too, iyswim. I have a tinge of sadness because DD is the daughter my mother wanted. My mom died when DD was a tot so DD didn't know her. (Complicated, eh?)

DD didn't make all of her own targets so hand on heart I haven't decided what I think about the actual results (other than the obvious that it doesn't matter in the real world even as much as a hill full of beans).

No - there was a level 6 paper.
