Hope someone can translate my ds results.
Hes at an independent school; just finished Yr 6. We moved from the state sector at the beginning of yr 5.
They don't do SATs, but do something called 'progress in maths' tests which are marked externally, I've got so used to NC levels, I've no idea what the marks, given as percentages, actually mean, so I wondered if anyone knows how to 'translate' these marks into a 'level' of some kind!

71% Number
87% Shape, space and measure
60% Data handling
100% Algebra

Speak to the school! Although all these results look like your child is doing fine/better for their age.

PIM can give NC levels, but the school probably don't use them, I bet if you asked nicely they could look up the data for you!

Thanks, would ask but they give out the reports on the last day of term so no opportunity to ask!

Email the school! Many teachers will get back to you, even if it's not with the same speed that you would expect in term time!

You do however need to move away from thinking in terms of NC levels. They are not at all helpful in a prep school preparing pupils for CE, which I see to recall is the type of school you have moved your son to? CE is a totally different kettle of fish in most subjects to what children would do in a state school. ( I would love to see the reaction of a cohort of Year 8 children in a normal state school when shown a Year 8 History CE paper in it's new format! )
