Can I find somewhere an overview of the % foreigners preferably per nationality in boardingschools. Preferably per year as sixth form is in general different. Split in day, week/flexi and full boarders is also helpfull. Thanks in advance.

Yes, why would you need to know this?

Weegiemum · 27/06/2013 16:28

Are you trying to avoid foreign pupils?

I expect polter that if you are looking at a full boarding place for your DD in the sixth form you may wish to check that the full boarders are from a variety of countries. I certainly know of one school where the full boarders are predominantly from one country. i would imagine it is quite natural to want to speak your first language at the weekend and in your spare time. I am sure I would in a similiar situation, so if your DD does not speak this language they can feel left out.
In answer to the OP I don't think that this data is available. It is though possible to ask schools if they have a cap on the percentage of a year group coming from a particular country.

The OP had a previous post about full boarding schools that play hockey.

Sorry not sixth form as I think she has an 11 year old.

I can't think of anywhere that publishes this in quite so much detail. However each school is usually inspected by ISI and these reports can give an overview of the makeup of the boarding population. Another indicator can be the gcse/A level results, where boarders from overseas will often sit a qualification in their home tongue even though those languages aren't taught at the school. But the best way is to find out is to ask the school (and be prepared for them to try to avoid answering!).

i can see why you might ask this ...the question was not about race but about nationality....esp if a boarding school eg if majority that board are from overseas or even from EU vs Asia, it may be very different culturally as an experience than going to a school where majority are British - the OP also did not say if he/she wanted to avoid it or saw it as a positive.

Thanks for the answers. Among other aspects, our chatty DD wants to talk English. Due to her age she doesn't overlook everything, but for sure will be disappointed when she will be locked up during the weekend in an empty house or with people speaking a language unknown to her.
