School in London for a sensitive child

Hi,

Ok, so our DS is a sensitive child.

I'm not precious, I'm not wrapping him in cotton wool, and he hasn't got disorders. He is just sensitive. And, yes, I don't like the term, but there you are.

After 3 years of not understanding why he cries at loud noises, why he doesn't hop around at Little Kickers like other kids, why clothes labels bother him, etc. we came across the Highly Sensitive Child book and suddenly it fell into places, well most of it anyway.

So after an initial guilt trip for trying to make him be like everyone else, we're now trying to understand him more.

Anyway, we're in London and are looking for a good, nurturing school for him, as the one he's in now, although a very good school just doesn't seem to agree with him.

Anyone has a similar kid in a school that you found fitting?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Which part if London are you in?

Are you looking for a state or private school?

Sorry but you've looked into this right? Smile He can get some help with his sensitivities which will make his life a lot easier. Just a thought.

There's better sites then that cos it's shit. May be wise to ask in the special needs section on here (I'm not saying your son has a problem, just that there's a wealth of advice over there and someone may be able to help).

Tethersend - we're in sw, but renting, so can easily move.

Can you say which area and whether you want state or private? Feel free to PM me Smile

My 14 year old has a sensory processing problem and some of your ds's quirks sounded familiar. Smile He's waiting for a space to come up with the OT so that they can help him. I wish you all the best.

Hi tethersend, will pm you, thanks

I have no personal experience but I know of a few boys who have gone to this school who have struggled in more robust state schools (which are all excellent in the area). It is small and quite nuturing apparently.

Good luck. I have a HSC and he survived state primary. He did get some help though.

Similarly no personal experience but this prep school has a really good reputation for the sort of environment that you are looking for.
