Is Examberry a good 11 plus tuition centre?

Hi,

I am confused whether or not I should admit my baby girl in Examberry. Anyone having past experience with this institute, please share your views.

If she is a baby she may be a bit young to start 11+ tuition no matter how keen you are Grin

Haven't any experience of them other than they market very aggressively. They are also the ones you see thrusting leaflets at parents on school open evenings. Most of the really good tutors go by word of mouth and don't need to resort to that.

good joke bico...

Well you did say "baby girl". I've not referred to ds (8) as a "baby" since he turned 1 year Hmm

If anyone know or has experience with Mrs Jones Education tution.
I am thinking about booking my son to her tution. Any info will be greatly appriciated.
Thanks

Examberry charge £40 for a two hour session. Sessions have up to 8 children, so they are taking in up to £160 for ever hour.
I would rather pay a private tutor £25 an hour to work with my child as the tutor will work individually with my child and will achieve more than what can be achieved in a class of 8 where there might be a variance in abilities and understanding of topics.
Thats Just my personal opinion though.

Whatever you do, don’t waste your money, time, trust and efforts with Gwenda Jones or 11plustuiton , all the mums in Richmond, Hounslow , Hampton have had some unpleasant experiences . examberry was far better in my experience .

Hi
Please can somebody advise if examberry summer course is any good, they are not cheap at all and all advise would be appreciated. Thanks

RhythmStix · 29/07/2018 07:03

IME the so called 'institutions' are pretty much all the same; they are shoddy and 'staffed' by people who are not proper teachers and who often can't even speak English properly. Just read the websites and you will observe the poor grammar. They are targeted towards scared parents who are desperate to get their dc into s grammar school. You are far better finding someone who tutors privately. Anyone good will not need to advertise.

BTW OP it's a bit weird that you want to get your 'baby girl' into a tuition class, unless it's just an eccentricity you have regarding your terms of address. Confused

JayDot500 · 29/07/2018 10:39

Omg people need to chill. I have friends and family that use the term and it's not a big deal.

mohsade · 29/07/2018 14:06

His didn’t use the term baby girl , that was another mumsnet member . Thanks anyway

mohsade · 29/07/2018 14:07

Sorry I meant I didn’t use the term baby girl , that was another member who posted that .

I agree that a 1-2-1 tutor is better - might be more expensive but you can probably have less sessions.

Group coverage doesn't allow much individual input, just coverage as you would in a school lesson. You could buy a set of 11+ books and get your child to work through them at home - would be a fairly similar experience and much cheaper.

Ask some parents at your school with older siblings for the name of tutors local to you.

Santosh123 · 03/04/2019 21:30

Hi

Anybody had used Mrs Jones Education? If so would you recommend her ?

Sabb2 · 02/08/2019 18:51

Hi! I was looking for feedback on Mrs Jones too.
Also, if you have any other name to recommend, especially for entrance into grammar school, Tiffin or Hampton, that would be appreciated.
You can send me a private message if you prefer.
Thanks a lot :) :)

Used Mrs Jones services for 2 years. Helped dd improve in English, Math, VR and NVR. However not to the level in reality required for Tiffins or Sutton. More geared towards private schools. You only have 1 parents evening a year and in year 5 it too late by then to make any decisions.

The classes are mixed years and the separate years only have perhaps 30 mins of alone time with Mrs Jones ( depends on if the other class have arrived / left swiftly and depending if parents stayed to ask questions).
You have to pay monthly and even if you continue for both years still have to pay a 2nd year admin fee. The monthly fees even have to be paid over the summer holidays. The tuition calendar is the private schools so longer holidays. ( Less tuition). Books are not included and add money throughout. The homework reinforces what they do in class for maths only. The mock exam results do not always come swiftly and the children do not get an opportunity to review their mistakes but you get a general idea where they are going wrong.
Only 2 children in our group of 10-12 got through to next stage tiffins. This is not something we were told but had to keep in touch with the other parents. Evert time we asked about success rate the answers were vague.
