SENCO had a word with me....so pleased

Ds struggles with anything to do with words, problems learning to talk, way behind the rest of the class (not that it matters but IKWIM) with reading and writing. He has been having extra lessons with the SENCO each week. I've been pleased with him, and today she told me how pleased she is with his progress!

I'm so chuffed. We still have a way to go, and she wants to see me at the end of the year, but I was so proud of him!

Excellent news. How old is he? It's just that I've just posted my essay (yeh!) about early phonological screening and how early intervention can lessen the chances of developing dyslexia. My ds had delayed language and didn't do as well as expected and is dyslexic - wish he'd had more intervention then.

I must a life - apologies. Dyslexia teaching is my new hobby/crusade - probably totally irrelevant to you.

He is six and has had the extra help all this year. The school also put in some very basic SALT for us which helped his language problems (don't want to over egg the cake they were not that bad, but enough to have an imact on his behaviour....frustration etc)

I'm also interested in dyslexia....as a teacher in secondary I see too many kids with major problems, 11 year old woth a reading age of 6, for example...I have three in one class.

I'm very pleased that he is making progress....he didn't really make any last year.

Me too - that's how I've ended up here as a secondary teacher, then primary, now intend to become a specialist dyslexia teacher. Much easier to tackle early on.
