Hi

I normally post elsewhere on here so excuse me being unfamiliar on the education board!

I am just considering teaching my children French (I am only GCSE standard myself) as we home educate.

Now, I know all about Muzzy but am unsure how well rated it is by people who have bought and used the programme.

I would be very grateful for any recommendations on good language courses or techniques for teaching young children, bearing in mind we as parents are not fluent!

Our children are 6, 4 and 2.

Maybe buying French cartoons/dvd's a la Muzzy but cheaper is a good idea? Not sure where to get hold of this sort of thing though!

Thanks in advance...

My dd does La Jolie Ronde at nursery. She is 4 and it is taught through song. There are also afterschool type groups from them and similar franchises for that age range.

The main advantage to going to something like that or getting a tutor would be the accent.

Don't know much about Muzzy, it looks very good but is expensive.

Hi, there's been a lot of threads on Muzzy if you look back through the archives. IIRC, most people said it was OK, nothing spectacular, but extremely expensive.

My dd1 also did la jolie ronde at nursery, but didn't particularly like it. I don't push it, but we do occasionally watch dvd's with the french or spanish soundtrack on, just to subliminally educate her Grin

Go to Enchanted Learning as they have excellent resources for teaching French at home or take them to a La Jolie Ronde club on Saturdays

Thanks for all the replies.

I cannot for the life of me get the archive search to work so have had to give up on that one.

Anyway, I will check out La Jolie Ronde and le club francais as well as the websites.

With reference to the topic here on why french is often the 'preferred' choice in terms of language tuition, we had a struggle to choose between French and Spanish as we have family in Spain. In the end I figured that should my children attend school at age 11 (a feint possibility) then this would stand them in good stead. I don't know though!

Loads of watching french children's tv is v good for teaching them.
You can buy things from French Amazon with a British credit/debit card, and get them delivered to UK. The money is translated from euros to sterling, and debited from your account, probably with a small extra charge.
