Best area for state schools in the Midlands

I've started a thread in Property/DIY regarding relocation from N Scotland to the Midlands.

Anybody got any idea of an area within a 45 minute commute of Solihull where there are good state primary & secondary schools? Is there a website anywhere which compares/contrasts schools within an area, or do you have to choose an area & research each school individually?

Thankyou in advance!

Have a look at the Department for Education website

You can enter a postcode and search by 25mile radius, which then displays a list of schools with their exam results.

Erm ... Solihull?
I don't have current gossip but Solihull is traditionally considered good. It is archetypical 'leafy suburbs'.

Solihull, Knowle, Dorridge, Leamington Spa, Warwick plus dozens of lovely villages in between. What exactly are you looking for?

Worcestershire. A little further south but lovely. M5/M42 to Solihull 45 minutes.

What age and sex are your children?

Have to agree with Senua - Solihull would fit the bill Grin

I've discovered on my other thread that Solihull is more leafy than I imagined given it's proximity to Brum & was also recommended Kenilworth but think that's probably out of budget.

Children are girls of 5,8 & 10

I was looking to narrow areas of the Midlands to search in based on schools

Thank you!

Don't remind people in Solihull they are close to Birmingham, they generally like to think of themselves as being FAR superior to us Wink

That said, house pricing in Solihull tends to reflect that too.

King Edward VI Camp Hill (girls gramamr) is a few miles from Solihull. Admission is selective but not impossible (easier for girls locally than boys).

You will need to find a primary school for the younger children, and I suggest you contact the LEA about availability of places, because the admissions procedure will be based on available vacancies, because they will not be entering through the normal entrance procedure.

I live in Solihull so if you want to pm me re specifics then feel free. I would say the borough is very well served for outstanding infant & junior schools & Tudor Grange is apparently an excellent senior school (my boys are all 6& under so haven't started looking too hard into senior schools yet) as is Arden in Knowle. I really do love the area, so would highly recommend it (I moved here just over 10 yrs ago).

Just seen your offer onedev, thanks very much. From a conversation with my mum today, I think db is thinking along the lines of Burton-on-Trent direction because of the familliarity aspect at the moment. This is probably because everything seems so overwhelming at the moment (they are out of their own house atm whilst contractors are in & because it is temporary, they don't have internet access at the rented place).

Once he starts the job & is in the area after easter, I may well be asking for further help.
