Moving end of year 8 from English school to Scottish system

We may be moving from Wales back upto Scotland. DD2 is currently in year 7 at boarding school (prep upto age 13)land and due to move onto senior school at the start of year 9.

This will hopefully be our last move for some years so the need for DD2 to board will cease, so we are considering moving her when her current school ends to a local Scottish school into year 9.

I wondered if any Scots could talk to me about the Scottish school system, what exams (GCSEs etc). I am completley ignorant as someome who grew up in the English system and we moved away fromafter 7/8years in Scotland when DD1 was just 4yo, so pre school.

Essentially I am keen to know if DD2 joins a school at the start of year 9, if she will be in time for GCSE(or equivalent).

Thanks in advance Smile

I would have thought - though I may be wrong on this - that if someone is moving in from another country then the year they are put into might go up or down depending on the system where they have come from and what level they are at in their subjects, rather than being strictly age-based.

That was my thinking NotGoodNotBad and my wishful thinking. Really hope we can male this work. I was sat on the fence the other day about the move but now really keen on the idea.

I have actually started another thread about my older daughter Here incase anyone else has anything to add Smile.

At my ds1's school the current S3 year (which would be your dd1's year) will be the first to sit the new National 4s and 5s. (old standard grade general and credit levels)
