SATS

I'm reading a book to familiarise myself with the modern primary education system and it refers to SATs for 7 yr olds. I vaguely remember something in the news in the not too distant past about these being dropped. Did I hear this or was I dreaming it?

I'm a bit unsure, as haven't taught for a couple of years, but as far as I'm aware the situation is like this.....

Children in English Y2 classes still take the SATs, but they can be carried out at any time in the year, and are very low key. The level from the test is then used to help the teacher form an overall judgement of how a child is doing, but isn't reported separately. Teachers can choose which tests to use from previous years. Parents are told about the level the teacher thinks is the best fit using assessment over time, professional judgement and the test result.

I think it's just teacher assessment in Wales. HTH

my seven yr old daughter is doing her sats now at school she is so stressed about it .they are making it a big deal.

That's terrible bigdonna. DS is doing them too but at his school the children don't even realise they're doing them - and that's the way it should be IMO.

They are doing at my ds school and its no big deal so laid back they are going more on teacher assesment now days .

Oh and as a ps I think that schools that just go up to the end of year 2 and not junior school make more of a deal of sats because their results are their final product and as so they are judged on the results .
