Hi

I'm thinking of moving my son to a prep school in Sept 13(Yr 3). He is quite academic but needs a bit of nudging in everything.
We are looking at Lyndhurst in Camberley and are planning visits to a few others. Can anyone give me any insight into Lyndhurst or any of the Camberley/Ascot/Windsor schools?
Thanks

There are so many!

I would look at Lambrook (nr Ascot). It's a school on the up at the moment. Newish, dynamic headmaster who will be in his prime over the next few years.

There are loads -
Lyndhurst attracts those transferring from state and is small with a good local reputation.
Yateley Manor also has a really good reputation though is larger, has transport from Camberley
Hall Grove in Bagshot very good
Then there are loads along the A30, Woodcote, etc

Have a look at Papplewick School - a stone?s throw from the northern perimeter of Ascot racecourse. Majority of boys are boarders but a few are day boys. It has a good record of sending boys to the major public schools including an impressive Scholarship List.

But whatever you do, make sure you don?t visit during Ascot week. You would be queuing behind what would undoubtedly be the world?s longest parade of stretched limousines from Ascot all the way to Slough!

Many thanks all for your input.

Will look at Lambrook & Papplewick, but they are expensive compared to some others. HG is a good option, but seems to be full for Yr 3.

Any thoughts on St John's Beaumont, Old Windsor? Its a boys only RC school..

St John's is a good school but as expensive as Lambrook.

OP

you also need to consider where you want DS to go afterwards- look at where these schools send to at 13, Also, Lambrook has opitional flexi-boarding and Papplewick is compulsory boarding for the last two years. There is also Sunningdale if you want boarding. I think Papplewick is probably the most expensive but none of these three are cheap.

Absolutely love St Johns. My DS, lazy little boy has flourished there. It is v black and white, v rules driven and has high expectations, but my goodness, my DS has pulled his socks up since going there.

Love it, love it, love it.

BUT also loved Papplewick ...couldn't cope with the boarding.

I looked at all these options and also Claires Court and Caldicott.

I have chosen Lambrook because I think it is the best all rounder. They can cater for whoever your DS becomes as he grows older, artist, thespian, sportsman or academic and they seem to value all achievements equally (but they do value achievement).

Also, at the size it is, I think any child would have a fighting chance of finding a circle of friends.

Another couple to consider are Bishopsgate and St George's.
