its jolly phonics

watching tennis (turning head frm side to side) and saying t t t t

clicking fingers to mime castanets cccc

freak him out by wiggling your arm like a snake and saying s s s s s sammy snake

Littlefish · 29/03/2006 19:43

Sounds like the Jolly Phonics actions to me. Each sound has a different action and a story to go with it.

t is about children watching a tennis match, watching the ball go backwards and forwards.

c, a and t are the first 3 sounds to be covered, followed by i, p, n.

Littlefish · 29/03/2006 19:44

Sorry, Enid is right - s, a, t are the first three!

popsycalindisguise · 29/03/2006 19:44

I now feel very {blush} as I ought to know this :)

granarybeck · 29/03/2006 22:31

yes, sounds like jolly phonics. dd (now 7) did it in reception and absolutely lived and breathed it, she did learn to read v quickly. She used to spell things with the actions and looked completely crazy! she even taught my mum which was quite amusing! I must admit at first i thought her teacher was mad but it does seem to help young children to learn by hearing the sound, seeing the letter and a picture and doing the action.

robinpud · 29/03/2006 22:40

popsy- my kids' nursery teacher runs workshops every year to explain jolly ophonics to parents. They are really useful esp if you don't mind making a prat of yourself doing all the actions in front of everybody there.

GDG · 29/03/2006 22:42

Look out for i, p, n coming your way!

i (squeaking like inky mouse)

p (puffing out the candles on a cake)

n (nnnnn, like an aeroplane)

Love it!

GDG · 29/03/2006 22:43

Btw, don't knock it - it's fabbo! Ds1 is in reception adn they did JP - he couldn't read at all before school and he's on Yr2 books already!!

Orinoco · 29/03/2006 22:46

ahoy!

Littlefish · 30/03/2006 16:39

Oh, Oh, poor goat ! (bonjour Orinoco!)

popsycalindisguise · 30/03/2006 19:21

I think it is great! Off to look at the link to the songs.

I am trying to reconcile my conflicting feelings about encouraging him as he is really keen and not wanting to be pushy teacher mum...

DH thinks I'm finally going mental as I keep singing "mum and dad make many meals, for their hungry children" and the kids are in bed!

Buy the CD, play it in the car and educate them subliminally Grin

(ah, ma amie littlefish!)
