Was wondering if anyone attends music type playgroup/meetings with their little ones. I've attended a "taster" jo jingles and a friend has mentioned kinder music. I'm a part time music teacher - anyone got any advice/experiences to offer? Thanks

TaiTai I'm in Kent. Have a few groups to choose from, it's a matter of timing as I work 3 days a week.

Clure, you sound like you could do my job! I do music sessions with children but I can't advertise. However, being carefully cautious, try looking at Monkey Music/Music with Mummy/Rhythm Time sessions on the web. (Can't believe I just advertised the competition but one of those is mine and it's not the really huge franchiseGrin) My name's somehwre on there and check out earlier threads. I don't think your little one needs me, she sounds like you're doing a great job!! Grin

following this thread with interest, and a big hello to the SWINDON mummies. We have just moved to Swindon and go to Music Bugs, they also use a cd, but i think it's a lovely atmosphere and it doesn't seem to detract from the sessions at all.

We used to live in manchester and went to a group there that used live instrumentation and it was nice (the lady was an amazing singer), but I have to say I prefer the classes we go to now a lot more.

I think there is perhaps a tendency amongst those music groups that do use live vocals/instruments to be a bit 'snobby' and look down on those that don't. I like the current class that we go to because they seem to work vey hard to provide what people actually want as opposed to what they think we should want (IYSWIM) and my dd joins in a lot more at these classes then she did with the previous one. I would say though that Music Bugs do manage to avoid alot of that awful childrens music you sometimes hear (the stuff that sets your teeth on edge), they have quite a few songs that are either just a vocal backing or maybe a simple guitar or piano accompaniemnt, there is a nice variety of different types of music.

Also, i can't sing at all, so i like the cd playing in the background, it gives me more confidence to join in and think other parents may well feel the same.

also, just to add about the cd versus no cd thing. A few weeks ago, we had a power cut during one of the classes but the lady just carried on regardless (so we sang unacompanied), she had a lovely voice and the children seemed happy enough but alot of the mums (myself included) found it very hard to join in!Blush
