No. IQ is not tested.

VR and NVR are IQ tests

I think it varies according to the number of places-v-applicants, but if it is an academically selective school, it will obviously have to be high!

No, VR and NVR are not IQ tests. IQ tests typically include VR and NVR but that does not mean all VR and NVR tests are IQ tests. To be an IQ test it needs to be normed against a standardisation sample so that the median result gives an IQ of 100 and a single standard deviation is equivalent to 15 IQ points. Grammar school tests may not have gone through this process so all they are interested in is the absolute score.

The problem with feeling comfortable that your child will get in if their IQ is X is that they probably won't if they haven't been tutored. There are super bright kids not getting in and hothouses average kids who are.

My youngest has an IQ of 137 which is the top 3% but two schools tests put him around average and one thought he was a moron. Thankfully, the schools that interviewed him saw how bright he was and that he'd never been tutored. But, if I had my time again I would have tutored.
