DS (11) started secondary today. His clothes are ridiculously big!

They seemed to fit when they arrived (JL) 2 weeks ago, but this morning, I note (and so does he Sad ) his poloshirt is longer than his groin. I think it's the smallest size, too! The sleeves on his sweatshirt are maybe 3 or 4 inches too long as well, but that's less of a 'cool' issue than a polo that looks like a nightdress!

Fortunately, I only bought 2 polos so if there's a smaller size, I can buy 2 more in that. FYI, I got 2 because he also has 2 of his DB's old ones, but they are a tad 'yellow', not white, and a bit bobbly. They are exactly the same size but being from a different manufacturer, are actually shorter. BUT I don't like them cos the fabric is what my mother would call 'dabby' and the collars collapse quickly.

If it were a blazer, I'd expect some 'room to grow' esp if it cost, like my friend's son, (private), £107 but not maybe in a poloshirt!

I feel like a bad mummy!

I had this with a blazer. Looked great in the shop. He put it on for the first day and it drowned him, he couldn't reach the bottom of the pockets with his hands. Shock

I had to buy a smaller one, but he wore the huge one for a week. Sad At least I have a bigger blazer for when he needs it.....

Don't worry, I guarantee he will not be the only one wearing oversized clothes.

And you will be grateful when he has a growth spurt!

Wolfiefan · 04/09/2012 08:49

Won't the polo shirts be tucked in and covered by sweatshirt? By next week he may even have grown!
If he complains tell him he's lucky he doesn't have my mum. She bought a long uniform coat for me to start Y7. Maroon. Padded. Duffle. Ankle length ish. Hood that smooshed my face. I got half way to school before rolling it up and shoving it in my bag. It never saw the light of day again!
Don't get me started on skirts or PE uniform!

See I have the opposite problem with dd1 - her blazer swamped her when I ordered it in July, now it fits nicely and I can't see it lasting a year Sad

My girls started today and their blazers suddenly looked enormous, you can't see their fingers when their arms are by their side. They'll grow so much in the next few months though, I hope! When I dropped them off most of the kids seemed swamped by their new uniforms.

Tee hee- I have just ordered 2 smaller polos for DS2, they'll be available for him to wear on Thursday. By which stage his social kudos will be in tatters, anyway.

I tried to get him to tuck it into his trousers but it looked like a bustle and really, especially with his habit of having the top button done up, the whole ensemble shouted 'Kick Me' so we went for the nightdress rather than nerdy bustle look.

My son is in the smallest size for everything and is swamped by hos clothes too.
I took a pic of him today and will be interested to see how it compares to his first day in y8 pic next year.
