Have changed School - first parents evening OMG!!!!

Can't resist this, and it's kind of an update for those who know me and the problems I've had with DS and his last school.

Briefly after a hideous term before Christmas and massive disagreement with git of headteacher we made the decision to move DS to another school from January (he is in Y2) and that also meant DD started at this school in Reception rather than the other school. Parents evening tonight and OMG!!!!!

DS is doing so well, teacher doesn't see the point of an IEP as 'he doesn't really need one does he? Oh, apart from his academic needs of course as I've put him forward as gifted in everything academic so he'll get it for that'.

Can you imagine my face? How I nearly kissed the teacher and my heart swelled with pride and joy? DS is such a different boy, happy, content working hard (there are PAGES of work in his books and he is on to new ones already despite only having new exercise books in January! This is a boy who would barely write 5 lines before) and I can actually read his writing!!!!! we still have ups and downs of emotional outbursts, but they are dealt with at school, not brought home, and DS is so much calmer when he leaves school knowing that things are over and done and not held agains him.

We did the right thing! Grin and ya boo sucks to horrid headteacher and nasty school (incidentally another child in Reception has just been withdrawn from that school because of the attitude of the headteacher Shock).

And DD is doing really well too, making friends, settling in, doing well with her reading and numbers. My little sunshine Grin

My heart is full tonight Smile

Thank you to everyone who listened to my worries and gave such support, advice and love to us. You were fab!!!

All the love in the world to you - the Wedgies

oh, wedgiesmum, wow...I hadn't caught any of your previous stuff (where have I BEEN?) but your post was so well said and heartfelt I just had to say well done - very well done for having the courage to move your DS. I'm so so pleased there was such a massive vindication of your DS and your approach - gifted huh! Just shows what an impact bad teaching and ethos can have and I'm so glad that your kids won't have to be affected by that. Hurray!

coppertop · 14/03/2006 21:08

I remember following your previous threads about your ds. You must be absolutely thrilled by his progress. :):):)

roisin · 14/03/2006 21:11

This is such fantastic news, and as you can imagine I am absolutely thrilled. I feel like doing something ridiculous like a whole page of smiley faces Grin Grin

I've got an inane grin on my face now just thinking of your lovely ds1, but I bet my grin is not a patch on yours.

I am so pleased he is now somewhere where he is appreciated and valued. Wonderful to hear about his writing too.

Smile Smile Smile

THat's fantastic news. So pleased for you all. Smile

Aero · 14/03/2006 22:29

I think I remember this from before. That is excellent news and you sooooo did the right thing. Marvellous to hear they're both doing so well.

swedishmum · 14/03/2006 22:38

That's fantastic - you must be thrilled! I too moved my dd (Y5) after Christmas after lots of long hard thinking and had first parents' evenig tonight. I knew she was much happier but was so impressed with the detail I got from the teacher. Ds has his last day at school tomorrow - his needs aren't being met. He's having a few weeks at the school of mum before joining his sister.

Have yet to have "that conversation" with the Head... but that's tomorrow's challenge.

firestorm · 15/03/2006 10:40

YAY!!!! Smile im so happy for you & your ds Smile

fairyjay · 15/03/2006 11:01

That's brilliant - as well as the lows, don't our children give us such wonderful highs!

JonesTheSteam · 15/03/2006 11:35

I hadn't seen your previous threads, Wedgie, but I'm so glad things are going well!! Smile

singersgirl · 15/03/2006 12:25

So glad to hear your son is thriving!

Flamesparrow · 15/03/2006 12:32

Must make you want to send a copy of a report to the old head, and just write "SEE!!!" across it in big letters! Grin

mumeeee · 15/03/2006 12:40

Well done to you ds and to the school. I'm happy for you that he is making such good progress

Norah · 15/03/2006 13:00

Fantastic news - I didn't read your other thread but I am in the throes of deciding whether or not to change my dd's school !

Maybe sometimes schools don't suit particular personalities and they thrive elsewhere ?

Well done - good decision !
