how does montessori work for older children?

dc is at a montessori primary.
many children seem to leave montessori school after year 2 for a more competetive prep.
so I'm wondering if it might not be the best place/system for older dc.

montessori schools lead on to steiner schools for older children.

There is a Montessori high school just started near me in Sydney, not sure if there are any in the UK. It looks quite like a Steiner high to me though I could be completely wrong!

I researched this latly as wondered how it vairies from steiner.

its is difference.

at nursery /foundation level i think now the british currcuculum is learning through play so distinctions not obvious.

but at primary year 1+

it means no testing
grading
but teaching same subjects as other schools
maths, science. english, history, geography, ,music re.

like state primary without the pressure.

dont know what it be like at high school-would they take qualifications.

but have read that montessori primary kids dont end up behind.
they catch up with their peers and have ended up going into selective senior schools.

from what i can tell its very relaxed atmosphere than normal primary or prep, small classes, more homly environment the montessori classrooms look fab. think in some ways prolongs childhood as the play element is not lost , they dont have huge pressures and focus heavily on the arts.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-407528/Children-Montessori-schools-better-educated.html- hate to quote daily mail its bit old but good study and the deprived primary in manchester had some success with it.

thanks
I know that montessori is very different from steiner, which I absolutely don't want for my dc.
I guess I am worried that if dc falls behind it is difficult to notice.

found this too

www.independent.co.uk/news/education/schools/montessori-schools-where-learning-is-childs-play-794753.html

i think its hard to measure as so few schools we dont have one in our city its rare outside of london or random places.

They are all private fee paying.

i guess half way through parents panic and think child wont be academic enough to get into secondry school because they dont truly embrace the montessori philosophy or dont have confidence in it.

generally parents want different things from schools at different times

preschool-play
primary-safe and nurturing
senior stretching, diverse and academic.

i would try montessori nursey but none near us.

i like the idea,my freinds used one and been happy but kids went onto state primary.

i would go and veiw one
google loads.

My DS is going to go to a Montessori preschool attached to a Montessori primary. The primary is selective and academic and gets kids into the local grammar schools and into independent selective schools.

However, I intend to leave my DS in the Montessori until the end of reception and then move him to a nearby, much bigger prep school.

I think the good things about the Montessori are:
an onus on the child to discover and learn
good practical equipment to support learning concepts
a rich, broad curriculum
emphasis on emotional development
huge opportunity to develop learning and thinking skills (critical thinking, reasoning, planning and evaluating, flexibility, adaptability etc) due to the child led approach.

I will be moving my DS for:
the common entrance preparation at 13+
specialist subject staff in years 5-8
better facilities (pool, performing arts centre, DT workshop etc)
the opportunity to play sport at a higher level due to larger numbers and more specialised coaching staff. Likewise for drama if he's into that.
Bigger pool of children to choose friends from.
