I would hate anyone to feel I was shirking answering their criticisms.

Since I do not have the thread visible - replies to the following

a) Metabilis - I could also argue some posters do not seem real on NM. I find it hard to believe that so many are "Oxbridge" graduates. Just sheer weight of numbers but I would not say they are not real or genuine or untruthful as you have said to me.

I also know that a real graduate from "Oxbridge" would have said something no poster here has said. Now it may be that they just don?t want to be specific or it may be that their Oxford and Cambridge isn?t the same one as I attended.

But no matter, they are still as real as anyone here and the truth of their qualifications/ university does not stop me replying to their posts on face value or valuing the post for what it says. .

b) mrz - I asked the question because of the article I cited in the first post. I was interested. No motives beyond that despite what some say.

c) Happy? Whoever - if you want to ask about why some posters choose a private school when they have good state ones on the doorstep be my guest. It doesn?t interest me. I am not aware anyone on the thread said they had done this anyway. I think by and large the feeling was that private schools were chosen because state provision was not acceptable in most cases.

d) Not sure who - I am not employable in another country! Most will not accept me because of my age.

My DW is Canadian and we have looked into moving there however, she can go (obviously) so can my DS but I can?t get a work visa. Immigration in Canada is very strict. Work in Canada (as many countries) is Canadians first.
Teachers are not required. I am not qualified in Canada (Canadian teachers are not qualified here either).
Many reasons.

If I can manage to find the necessary finances and other factors to enable me to pass immigration control I would go to Canada. I think DC would have a better chance there. We would still elect private schools though. Hope that answers you.

Since the thread is now closed, lets leave it that way. No point in carrying on . I think my questions were answered
Thanks to all who contributed.

Spider? Or sapphire?

breadandbutterfly · 02/08/2012 23:12

Aaah. Just googled it. Your secret is out, Metabilis!

Metabilis3 · 02/08/2012 23:31

Grin Bread, it's not a secret it's about as blatant an 'I'm a proper dr who fan not a johnny come lately' as you can get. Grin Actually, it's not because something like celestialtoymaker or zarbi would be that - I was born too late to be a real old school fan, despite starting at the tender age of not a lot I'd already missed several years.

I think Tom Baker (who is of course the real Dr Who) was one of my earliest crushes...

Happy memories of hiding behind the sofa...but no interest in earlier Dr Whos, as of course they weren't The Real One.

I am highly amused, though not at all surprised, that Jabed has started another thread because he didn't manage to get the last word in his other thread. Also amused, but not surprised, that he justifies this by claiming we would all by bothered of he wasn't able to answer questions from the previous thread.

Reminds me of he scene from the film adaptation of "Angela's Ashes" where young Frank has a conversation with his boss at the Post Office...
"Take the last word, then, go on, take it"
"Thank you, I will"
"Go on, take it"
"I will"
and on...

EvilSynchronisedDivers · 03/08/2012 13:48

BTW, Peter Davidson is the real Dr Who.

kerrygrey · 03/08/2012 14:25

You are all so young! The REAL Doctor Who is Patrick Troughton

morethanpotatoprints · 03/08/2012 15:19

So what exactly have we discovered from this extended thread then?

Waht is the answer to jabeds question? Is it 42?

The real , best Dr who by the way was Tom Baker!
