ds's writing is very, very slow - it used to be illegible, now it's pretty neat, but oh, so sloooowww which means that he's not finishing papers where there's any kind of extended writing

the SENCO at his school has suggested that he types for his GCSEs and he's finally knuckling down to learning how to touch type

he's going at about 35wpm at the moment - he's given himself a goal of 45wpm (which he gets in some of the tests), but is that good/fast enough for exams?

Hi, it's really a personal thing as he needs to be able to type faster than he can write. To qualify for the use of a computer he will have been assessed as writing so many words per minute. Sorry I can't remember the cut off figure. So if he types faster than this it will be an advantage to him. The faster he can type the more thinking time he will have in exams.

I think 35 is pretty quick so 45 should be plenty (read some America speed requirements for teens). My son has to speed up considerably over the summer he's at 26 WPM!
