We have just reapplied for a statement for 7yr old ds who has been recently diagnosed as autistic. The school have said that his attainments are between P7, and NCLevel 1c. I have no idea what these levels indicate or what they should be for us not to be concerned. He is on school action plus and goes to junior school this September.

In the Key Stage 1 SATs an 'average' child should be working at level 3.

Not sure what P7 means though - maybe something to do with the foundation stage curriculum maybe?

sorry typo should say level 2

I think I can remember somebody saying that the P levels were the ones they have before accessing key stage 1. Is key stage 1 the same as NClevel 1?

p levels are a widely used assessment tool , used mainly for children with special needs. They break down the stages in learning before the national curriculum. p7 is really almost equivalent to 1c; so what they are actually saying is that he is beginnning to access the national curriculum. The majority of children in year 2 are around the 2c-3 mark so he is a little away from this. It means that he will probably need some of the lessons differentiating for him in the juniors and may well benfit from some additional support. So you will want to ask the junior school how they will be supporting him in the classroom. hope that helps!
