Independent schools and SEN

I have a suspicion my ds has mild ADHD, unfortunately his hyper behaviour does seem to stand out from his peers (his current school believes he is just "young" and does not agree with my worries. I'm so very much hoping they are right!) He is due to start a new independent school in September. I am now freaking out....have I done the right thing for him? I think smaller class sizes and more focused learning would help, but what if his behaviour is too much for them? What has YOUR personal experience been?

DS attends private school that seems to specialise in awkward cases, including quite a few with ADHD. Think it's an individual thing to the school, how they'll cope.

We have not said anything to the school mainly because his current school advised us not to...and my OH didn't feel we should. I am not happy with that decision. He had a day of assessment, which obviously he passed. Hmm, is it too late to say something after we have accepted the offer?

No, its not too late. I would talk to the new school about it - see what support they can offer and ensure they, and DS, start off on the right foot.

We've been told by DS1's school he's exhibiting poor concentration in class - we're looking at independent schools as they also said he seems to do/concentrate better when working in small groups - and have been v honest with the independent schools we've been to see about the reason we're thinking about moving him.
