Indian Languages, but there are a lot- i'd give up now!!

NotQuiteCockney · 25/02/2006 16:36

It's "slurf" in Dutch. I think that may be the answer?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/02/2006 16:37

Cite . Look part-way down.

No, I don't speak Dutch, so I can't verify this. I just searched for it and found this.

Surely oliphant is elephant?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/02/2006 16:48

If you put up a thread looking for Afrikaans speakers, you might find someone with the answer?

I think it could be Afrikaans - just found a story (in Afrikaans) about Ollie Olifant with a few mentions of "slurp" in there.

Blandmum · 25/02/2006 16:55

an afrikaans tranlator program gives olifant for eliphant

yes - but just because we use two words for it doesn't mean that other languages do, IYKWIM.
